Dangal- A fight within….
On 28th December at 2.45pm the entire team of Shanta Spine Hospital went for the movie Dangal. This was the least I could do as a parting gift to my hard working staff in 2016. Aamir’s movie left me spellbound and rang a bell within me, we all are in a “Dangal” and fight many battles everyday.
0.Dangal with self– The real Dangal is about ones self, Aamir portrayed a wonderful character where he believed that only a boy can deliver goods. He tried every available trick defying science and destiny to produce a boy till he gets a realisation kick that Gold is Gold. Both boy or a girl are like two eyes of the same body, you can’t compromise one over the other. The downside of the movie is that in 2016 you can’t “force” your kids to live your dreams. They are “individuals” with their own dreams and aspirations. The good what Aamir portrayed is that he asked only 1 year from his wife (involving her in the decision making) to either live or leave his dream. The other positive that I see in this movie is that In this entire Dangal with self the father never raises his hand on the girl child.
0.Dangal with the society– we come across so many examples in our daily living where people love to take credit for every small thing. This was wonderfully displayed in all the tricks which the villagers suggest him to have a boy and had the gall of gathering together at the time of delivery to take away all the credit if their prediction had gone right; at the same breath blaming him entirely when he fails. This reminds me of my personal experience as a surgeon, after doing a wonderful 4 hour spine surgery-Occipitocervical fusion, taking risk with technical margin of error of only 2mm around the blood vessel supplying the smaller brain; if the surgery is a success the credit goes to the relative who recommended me and if I fail I’m crucified totally.
0.Dangal with the Naysayers. When Aamir listens to his inner self, he defies the law of Indian villages of making his daughters wear “small” clothes, practice inhuman and fight with boys in the male dominating sports. Cook non vegetarian food for his daughters to gain weight, remove any obstacle to come in the way of his dream. When you are passionate about something don’t listen to the naysayers, they also want you to be a failure like them.
0.Dangal with what is right and what is wrong– the rotten Indian sports system, when it is required it is not there, when you start producing results they try to intervene with their own rules. We need a system where raw talent is identified at grassroots level and been headed by individuals who were stalwarts in that respective field for e.g. Rahul Dravid given the responsibility of the India A and under 19 team. A GURU is someone who instills confidence in his or her disciple and don’t develop an underachiever or a person with an acceptable attitude. Duty of a guru is to teach what is right and what is wrong. Leaders are grown by leaders. If you just dream of crossing the line you will never achieve gold.
0.Dangal with your own ego- When we become an adult we forget that what we are today is due to the unlimited compromises and hardships that our parents have done and gone through to make us what we are today. The selfless untiring activities that they do make us capable of taking our own decisions. They develop wings for us so that we can decide the sky we want to fly. But with the mere ego of flying we forget the producer of the wings and harm our alma mater by ridiculing and making them feel small. The other important thing which Dangal portrays is NO sibling to sibling rivalry. Both the sisters have so much love and affection towards each other in testing times. This is a great quality of a true leader with great mission.
0.The real Dangal when your Guru leaves you alone andyou are left for taking decisions. A guru is really happy when his disciple takes care of problems in his absence. All the hard work, training and practice comes into play during that second or moment when you are made or broke. A steady mind and clear thinking helps in transforming a child into a man or a woman.
Dangal hits the chord in the right direction. You can mould a child in the direction you want with great care and affection. The only thing what a child needs in this Dangal called LIFE is YOUR time.
