BLINDFOLDED WITH SUCCESS…
Last Sunday I was on my way to Amravati for my scheduled monthly visit. When I crossed Kondhali sitting in my car, listening to the audiobook of the Talent Code, I saw a small ‘thela’ outlet of South Indian food, it was crowded with 20-25 people savouring the hot well served idli and Dosa. Saw the satisfying look on the owner’s face who was busy on a Sunday morning and proud of his achievement. This little entrepreneur was happy with his outlet, customer base, revenue generation and profit. When I contemplated that scenario to a small outlet in Pratap Nagar, Nagpur providing the same quality, services and product the revenue generation was threefold that of the guy in Kondhali. Overstretching it further to the recognised South Indian Outlets of Nagpur like Krishnum or Gokul Vrindavan whose revenue generation would be 15-20 times that of the small thela. My mind also wandered to the UpSouth chain of food outlets on airports which have suddenly come up in the last few months and the franchise model and revenue generation they are creating. Does the thela fellow in Kondhali know that there is a chain of South Indian food thelas which caters to travelling population in each and every airport of our country.
It forced me to contemplate the little thela as my hospital which has 15 beds and we cater to a varied range of population and we as a team and me as an owner are very happy with the turnover and revenue generation but is it just a pseudo happiness, a pseudo satiety like a frog in a well who doesn’t know the world outside the well. Am I mine the biggest enemy or am I restricting my ability to venture into a bigger something. Does that bigger something comes at a cost, or do I have to change something in me or in the hospital who can envision the progress which I’m not ready to vision.

It’s true for all of us… Perhaps even the Ambanis… We all could be in another place, doing another thing, with another person, living another life…
